The United Nations Safety Council has demanded a right away ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza and the fast and unconditional launch of all hostages as the USA abstained from the vote.
The remaining 14 council members voted for the decision on Monday.
Talking after the vote, US ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield blamed Hamas for the delay in passing a ceasefire decision.
“We didn’t agree with every part with the decision,” which she says is the rationale why the US abstained.
“Sure key edits have been ignored, together with our request so as to add a condemnation of Hamas,” Thomas-Greenfield mentioned. She burdened that the discharge of captives will result in the rise in humanitarian support within the besieged coastal enclave.
Al Jazeera’s diplomatic editor James Bays mentioned this can be a “very, very vital” growth.
“After virtually six months … the vote, virtually unanimous,” has demanded a long-lasting and fast ceasefire in Gaza.
“The US has used its veto 3 times,” Bays mentioned. “This time, the US let this go”.
“Resolutions of the Safety Council are worldwide regulation, they’re all the time seen as binding on all of the member states of the United Nations,” he added.
